ART DECO TRAVEL MAP

DAVID KIMMEL

This map was created with Mapbox and is a nod to the classic Art Deco travel posters that celebrated the excitement of exploration. Using the bold colors, sharp lines, and unique style of that era, I wanted to create a map that feels both modern and vintage. It brings the timeless look of Art Deco into an interactive digital space, inviting users to explore the map with the same sense of adventure those early travel ads inspired.

The map design draws on the Art Deco style, featuring vibrant, bold colors, geometric shapes, and stylized landscapes or cityscapes. Contrasting colors and streamlined forms are designed to capture the allure of traveling to new places. Bold clean lines are implemented to frame the warm colors with simplicity at all zoom levels.

A snapshot of Madison. Shades of orange representing land and base layers contrast with the water. Solid red streets provide more contrast to emphasize the theme.

A zoomed out look of the western part of America shows distinct symbols for the state capitals. Art Deco Font type is displayed for all labels.
